Post-production Editing Process Post #2

Almost immediately after my partner and I finished our filming, we started to edit so that we wouldn't fall behind on our plans. We started by uploading all of the scenes we filmed to Clipchamp, we even uploaded the bloopers and clips we aren't adding and just looked through them all and picked out the good scenes, since some took multiple attempts. Our process so far while editing has gone smoothly. I have one minute of the opening edited so far and showed my teacher today. She gave me some tips on what we should film again and what to change. I found her tips to be very beneficial and will be taking them into consideration before further editing.
Here is a photo of our editing process so far on Clipchamp:

Even though we have started our editing there are many things that we still need to interpret into the opening. We want to play with the lighting to not make it too bright but also make it so that the blood is the main focus and highlighted. In the photo of our editing process so far, you can see I dimmed the lighting, but Im not too sure if we will 100% use this yet. Another thing still needed to be added is the credit sequence. Today during class time we looked for a font that we will use for the sequence and we were successful and found one we think is perfect for the opening.

 Post-production Editing Process Post

For my partner and I's film opening, sound plays a very big part in our opening since there is no talking throughout the scenes. It's also important we add sound because it changes the overall effect of our opening. Without sound, viewers wouldn't understand the mood we're trying to go for.
We did research on some no copy right sounds and found a couple options that we're considering using in the opening. We were looking at slow, unsettling classical music. We want the music we add to give off a scary vibe while the chef is cooking. The music we want to use needs to create suspense in the scenes.

We also are going to add foley sounds into the opening. One foley sound that we know we're going to add is a knock in the last scene of the film to end it off. During the scene where my partner turns on the stove, we will add the noise of the stove turning on. We are also going to add cooking sounds such as the steak sizzling.

Schedule For Upcoming Week

Schedule For Upcoming Week

For the upcoming week, me and my partner decided to make a schedule to keep us organized and focused on what we need to do. To start, we are going to start editing tomorrow and divide how much we are going to do equally. We started already putting our clips together and moving them around to see how we're going to do our editing. We are going to start doing our credit sequence and figure out how we want to interpret it into our film opening. We are also going to start thinking about our CCR and help each other come up with ideas on what type of video we're going to make.

Prop Creation

Prop Creation

When creating our props that we wanted to utilize for our film opening, I think the way we executed how we used the props looked good and added some more detail and life to our film opening. A prop that my partner and I thought was done very well was during the first clip in our opening, it was an angle only looking at the chef washing the fake blood off of the knife. We thought that this little detail is key to creating a feeling of fear and mystery, which is exactly the vibe we were going for. The alcohol and pills were also key to creating character in the film for the chef. This one small detail could help people to understand that the chef could be mentally ill.

Here are some examples of some props me and my partner utilized:

Shooting Process

When shooting our film opening, me and my partner thought we executed our process very well. Before we started, we made sure to plan everything out and have our story board in hand so things would go smoothly. We did switch some minor things that were in our storyboard when filming but no key details.
To start, we got into our costumes, my partner Kylies role was the chef and she wore an apron with a black hoodie underneath and my role was the victim, I wore a white shirt and black pants. We made sure to purchase all props we utilized in our opening beforehand so that we would have them ahead of time. Some examples of props used are cooking tools, food, pill bottles, fake blood, etc. My partner and I both stayed very focused throughout the filming process to make sure we did everything perfectly. One issue we did face was trying to figure out how to cut a sweet potato into cubes and how to cook the food correctly, although we did end up figuring it out eventually.

Here are some behind the scenes photos of me and my partners filming process:

Production Company Logo

Production Company Logo

The production company name that me and my partner came up with is called Wave Productions. We put in a lot of thought when considering what to name it because we wanted it to be something that was personal to both of us. The name we came up with (Wave Productions) is important to us both because we both grew up in Florida near the beach, it makes us feel nostalgic and think of our loved ones. When creating our company logo, we edited the background to be an ocean and we made the overall colors mostly blue, which represents the colors of the waves at the beach. We also picked a font that we felt was a good fit for our logo.

Here is an image of me and my partners original logo, before we decided that it didn't represent what we were going for as much:

Character Development

Character Development

The character that me and my partner have came up with for our opening, which we are trying to create is a mysterious character. But we will also add some clues so viewers can understand the concept of the character we are developing.
To start, our character is going to be faceless, shown from the neck down and the back of the head. The character will also wear a black hoodie with an apron to show the representation that he is cooking and viewers can understand that he is a chef. Pills and alcohol will be shown to represent the idea that the character could have some kind of mental illness and problems or even just be insane. Also, how the chef plates the food is going to be very specific to give the idea to the viewers how the character is very organized and how he thinks and acts. There will be a dead corpse shown in the frame, the audience will most likely be able to tell what is going on and be able to develop the character using their minds.
Though me and my partners character will never show his face, throughout the opening details can be picked up by the viewers to develop and create an idea of who the character really is.

Props For Film Opening

Props For Film Opening

For me and my partners film opening, we have has a lot of ideas for what props we think will fit well with our idea. We analyzed some videos of chefs to see what kind of things they use in the kitchen, though the point of our opening isn't really about a chef and more about getting people thinking. We just thought it would give us more of a feel of what props to get for the cooking part of the opening.

There's some things that we 100% need for idea like steak and potatoes because based on our idea, that's a very big part of it. We will absolutely need a cooking pan and cooking utensils for when we cook the food. We are going to get the pharmacy orange pill bottles and have them on the counter, also other drug-like things sitting around that we will create, and a bottle of alcohol which will fit the vibe we are going for.

For the other part of our opening, we will buy some fake blood for the person who will pay as dead that will sit at the table. The fake blood will also be used to put on the apron for the chef.

These are some examples of the props we are considering purchasing/creating:

Audio Planning

Audio Planning

When considering audio that will be used in me and my partners film opening, we have had a couple of different ideas that we are planning to add to our project for the soundscape.

First off, throughout the entire opening we wanted some kind of constant, unsettling humming sound that makes the viewers feel tense and a little uncomfortable. I think it would be perfect to fit the vibe we are going for. Me and my partner did research on some film openings that included the unsettling humming and we thought it was a pretty good idea. A good example that I watched was the film opening for the movie The Innocents. The film is also in the same genre as the one that we are doing, which makes it an even more reliable example.

The Innocents (1961)

We are also considered adding some foley sounds into our opening. For example, when the chef is cooking there will be sounds of sizzling and the oven/stove noises. We will definitely add some more foley when we create the opening itself but that is the only one we know we are for sure doing at the moment.

Possible Costuming Ideas

Possible Costuming Ideas

When me and my partner were thinking of our film opening and the idea, we came up with some possible costuming ideas for the people who will play the roles in our production.

For the chef, we don't know who's going to play that role yet but we were thinking we would get a boy to do it. Based on our idea, it feels the most fitting. But since we don't know yet, he or she will wear an all black outfit: black hoodie, black pants, black hat, and black shoes. Followed by an apron over the clothes. We were thinking of splattering a little blood on the apron and making some other little stains to make it more realistic and the vibe that we are going for.

For the person who will be lying dead (the victim), we were thinking of something pretty casual like an everyday, calm outfit. We haven't discussed the specifics of what that person will wear but I am thinking maybe a casual t-shirt, jogger pants, and sneakers of some sort. The person might also have a little blood on them to fit the plot.

Project Idea and Major Inspiration

 Friday, February 6, 2026

Project Idea and Major Inspiration

Summary of project idea: The scene starts off with a chef turning on the lights. The chef then puts on an apron with a visible blood stain on it and starts cooking a steak. When finished cooking the steak, the chef starts cutting the steak into cubes. The camera moves over to an unknown person, and the chef starts to wipe blood off of them. The chef cuts up sweet potato, overflows a mug with alcohol, and there are visible pills in the background of the scene. Unsettling music plays while the chef cooks. When the food is done, the chef sets it up in a very specific order, sweet potato and steak. After the chef sets it up, a lifeless dead person sits across from them, blood on wrist and body. The chef tries to feed, touch, and manipulate the dead person into eating and playing with the food until there is a knock at the door. This is where the scene ends.

Our major inspiration for the film opening is the movie Se7en. I liked the way they did their credit sequence, it had a scary vibe which is exactly what we are going for. I also liked how they added quick cuts to switch to different things. The font that was used in the films credits helped us to get an idea of what font we want to use. The font gives off a demented kind of feeling. The sound effects playing in the background also gave us a good idea of what music/sound effects we will use.

Media Theory Wished To Integrate Into Project

 Thursday, February 5, 2025

Media Theory

The media theory that me and my partner are considering integrating into our project is the Reception Theory (Stuart Hall). Out of all the media theories we researched, we thought this one would be the best fit for our project.

The theory focuses on how different audiences interpret the same media in different ways. Basically that there is no "right way" to view it. The viewers all create different meanings based on things they have experienced or their emotions. We think this fits our idea well because our film opening doesn't use any dialogue, the chef is a faceless character, and a lot of details are left unexplained. Meaning that the viewers have to figure out what is going on using their mind.

For example, some viewers might think it's about:

• Addiction
• Guilt or trauma
• Denial and grief
• Manipulation
• Self-destruction

This shows that everyone could see the film opening in different aspects which I think is really cool.

An example of a film that uses the Reception Theory is The Great Gatsby, 2013.

Group Meeting #1

Group Meeting #1

Hello blog! Yesterday in class we had our first group meeting about our portfolio project. I think it went very successful and was very helpful when thinking about future plans for the project. I received good feedback from the group I was assigned to and I enjoyed hearing everyone's ideas.

My classmate, Fiona, was the first to share her idea. She's deciding to do some kind of drama or coming of age film opening. We all thought the plot she is thinking of doing was a really good idea and can be executed well if done the right way. The blogs she has created so far also look very good and I like the format she uses. We all gave her some ideas that we think would fit well in her plot, which is basically a girl walking down the street the whole film opening and she's dropping things and her heels are falling off from them being too big on her feet, she's visibly drunk and trying to seem older than she really is. I think the idea she has fits more under the coming of age category, rather than a drama. I told her that the idea reminded me of the film Trainspotting.

Next, another member of my group, Gavin, shared his idea. Him and his group want to do an action film opening. Their idea was to do some kind of break-in where they would have props like fake guns and costuming like suits. We all agreed that their idea would be a little hard to execute just because we think it would be hard to make it look good. We suggested they maybe do a comedy instead, where they still do the break-in but make it silly. For example, one of the members starts dropping stuff and freaking out as they're breaking in as if they haven't done this many times before and planned their break-in strategically.

Lastly, me and my partner didn't have a fully set idea for our film opening, but my group gave us some good ideas for the idea I told them we may be considering. I told them how we were thinking of doing something where the person acting doesn't show their face. They recommended us to research and analyze films with faceless characters and maybe wear costuming like a black hoodie. They also suggested that we do our credit sequence on objects in the opening because it would look good with the idea we're thinking of.

Psychological Thriller Target Audience

 Sunday, February 1, 2026

                      Psychological Thriller Target Audience

The main target audience for psychological thrillers mostly consists of people aged 16-40 years. This is because the genre sometimes involves pretty heavy themes, like mystery and suspense. Many films of this genre will essentially revolve around unusual plot twists, secrets, and the human mind, which may appeal to some people, especially those who enjoy analyzing the story behind the film and the little hidden details.

While analyzing a film of this genre, most people who are watching will be able to see dramatic camera movements and dark lighting. They essentially revolve around themes such as trauma, paranoia, and betrayal. These essentially help in creating a more intense atmosphere for films and keep the viewers emotionally attached.

Psychological thrillers will normally appeal to both female and male viewers. The reason for this is that the genre itself will not essentially revolve around romance or action but will rather revolve around storytelling and suspense. The viewers who essentially enjoy this genre will enjoy unusual twists and complex plots.

The genre usually is more relatable to people who are interested in motives and behavior. This develops peoples curiosity levels rising, making people become investeed in a film and even maybe they will watch till the end. The viewers often enjoys to try to think of what is going to happen next.

I personally think that I am apart of the target audience for psychological films. I enjoy watching movies that really have not wanting to look away from the screen in fear you might miss whatr happens next. Usually, when I watch a film that falls under the genre, they don't leave my mind for some time.

Psychological Thriller Film Examples:
Secret Obsession (2019)

                                                                        The Circle (2017)

                                                                    The Roomate (2011)
