Final Reflection of Project

Final Reflection of Project

I can't believe the time has come where we have come to the end of this project!! It really feels like it has been a long journey and I am so happy I was able to document my process through my blogs. Looking back, me and my partner really put in a lot of time and effort into our work to get to where we are now. It was a lot of research, filming, editing, and more.

Starting with a reflection on our film opening, Open Flame, I think me and my partners vision for what we wanted to accomplish in our opening ended up turning out very good. At first, when my partner came to me with her idea for Open Flame, I wasn't sure if I liked it, but then we started to do research on what idea she was going for and really decided that it was what we wanted to do. We were able to incorporate some typical horror conventions while also switching it up a little to fit what we were going for. Our editing process was quick and efficient. We figured out how we wanted to do our credit sequence pretty fast and when we added it we immediately liked how it looked, along with the editing. It took us some time to find the music we wanted to use even though we had some kind of idea for the vibe we were going for, but the one we ended up choosing stood out to us very quick when trying to find the music. But, there are some things that both me and my partner agree that we could've done better. For example, our film opening is a little under the time limit. We realized this too late after editing everything all together. We should have fixed this by adding in more clips. Another example is that we repeated a lot of the same camera shots. Besides that, I think we did a good job on our project and it represented our genre well.

Now I will reflect on my CCRs. At first, it took me quite some time to figure out what I wanted to do, even after having people give me several ideas. I recorded the first one doing a set tour while answering the questions but it ended up being too short and I had to scrap it. So instead, I ended up doing the first one as a presentation with a voice over of me answering the questions and really getting into depth. For my second one, I decided to act as a film influencer reviewing my opening while answering the questions. I think I ended up doing a pretty good job on both CCRs and I enjoyed creating them.

Post-Production of CCRs

In previous blogs regarding research for CCRs and ideas, I talked about doing a set tour for the first one while answering the questions and being unsure about what I was going to do for the second one. I ended up not doing the set tour for the first one and instead doing a presentation with a voice over. For the second one, I ended up deciding to do a film influencer reviewing my own film opening.

For the first CCR, I did everything through Canva. The presentation, voice over, and editing was all done through the app. I have done many projects and presentations through Canva and thought it was a very reliable resource for this specific project, since I've learned how to use it very well over time. But through this project I learned how to do the voice over straight through Canva unlike other times.

For the second CCR, I filmed my project through my iPhone and used a ring light to hold it up and create good lighting. I also thought using a ring light would be a good idea for the film influencer reviewing the opening. I used ClipChamp to edit all of my clips together, add sound, and add in the image I created through Canva.

Editing of CCRs

For my first CCR, I decided to do a presentation with a voice over. I originally filmed myself doing a set tour while answering the questions but it ended up being too short. So instead, I thought this would also be a good idea.

Editing process for CCR #1:

For my second CCR, I decided to do a film influencer reviewing my film opening. This was a last minute idea because I was still unsure of what I wanted to do for my second one. I think I ended up executing my project pretty well and I'm happy with the results>

Discussing CCR production ideas

Discussing CCR production ideas

For my CCR I had a couple different ideas. When I first started to think about what I wanted to do, I was thinking of doing a talk show after seeing a good example during my class. After thinking more into it, I'm not completely sure I want to go through with that.
Although I wasn't present for the second group meeting, I had some of my classmates discuss their CCR ideas so I could get a better understanding of what I should do. Most people I talked to were still unsure about what they were doing. Someone suggested I do a tour of our film openings set while answering questions. I like this idea and I think that is what I will do for my first CCR.
Another idea someone told me was having an interview with our main character (faceless chef), but the only issue with this is that the character isn't supposed to speak.

Research For #4 Question Of CCR

Research For #4 Question Of CCR

Question #4 for the CCR is, "How did you integrate technologies-software, hardware, and online-in this project?" For our project, we used a tripod and our phones. When I started to edit our project, I used certain tools such as filters, animations, and captions.
As the year has gone by in this class, I have realized that I continue to learn new things everyday. For example, this week my classmate, Valeria taught me how to use Clipchamps transcripts to create captions and yesterday I started to play around with the contrast and it has made me realize that a lower contrast helps to add the effect we wanted for our opening. I also learned how to detach audios from clips we had filmed.
During the filming process for our project, me and my partner had no idea how to use a tripod and how to set it up, we had to research videos on how to use it because we wanted to make sure we were using it correctly and also so we could make sure that we wouldn't break it.

Research For #3 Question Of CCR

Question #3 for the CCR is, "How did your production skills develop throughout this project?" This question is very relative to our work that I have completed in my Aice media class. When I first started the class, I had little to no knowledge of this topic. Looking back, my first project in this class is very different from the one we are doing now. Throughout this project, I learned a lot of new things that helped my project get as good as possible. I learned how to incorporate new things and get better at filming. One big thing was that I was able to improve my writing skills for this project by consistently writing blogs.

Script: My production skills developed a lot through the process of this project because of all of the research I have done for this project. I learned lots of new details and techniques. The one thing I'm most proud of is that it developed my writing skills tremendously.

Research For #2 Question Of CCR

Research For #1 Question Of CCR

Question #2 for the CCR is "How does your project engage with audiences and how would it be distributed as a real media text?" To begin, our film opening is able to engage with audiences through its cliffhangers and suspenseful moments. Our project is aiming to grab and keep hold of peoples attention, keeping them interested and actively engaged in our product. Our film opening does this by creating mystery and suspense to have the audience wanting more. In real media, our product would be distributed through advertisements in theaters, social media, and posters. For example, it would be shown on popular apps like TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook.

Script: Our film engages with our audience because me and my partner keep them on the edge of their seat and get them thinking about the opening because of the strong mystery and suspense of the film. The film will be distributed in theaters and would be advertised on many other platforms. For example, Instagram, TikTok, and so on.

Set Design Creation

Set Design Creation

For me and my partners film opening, since we are doing a killer chef, we of course had to film in a kitchen. We filmed in my partner Kylies kitchen and we made sure to make the set perfect for everything we needed to film. In our opening, the chef cooks cubed steak and sweet potatoes so we made sure to have pans and other cooking supplies on our set. We also used the stove when cooking the food which was also apart of our set. We filmed most of the clips on her kitchen counter, so it was shown in almost every scene.

Here are some pictures of our set:

Research For #1 Question Of CCR

Question #1 for the CCR is, "How does your product use or challenge conventions and how does it represent social groups of issues?" The first time I saw this question, I could tell it was very important to the CCR and definitely had to be specific so I must answer it to my best ability. While doing research for the question, I understood that I would need to give a good and clear answer.

To begin, me and my partners project uses very typical horror conventions like a killer and their victims. There are some things in our project though that make it so much more than your usual killer and victim storyline. Our killer who plays as the chef, clearly has some sort of mental issues which viewers can see slowly as they watch the film opening. You may be thinking, killers usually do have mental problems since they are killing someone, but our opening will have the audience on the edge of their chair trying to figure out the "why?" and "how?". The opening itself is a mystery and was made to have viewers thoughts be all over the place. This is an example of why I think our film opening is very special and different from most openings. Even though we did use some typical horror conventions, we made it more unique by adding details that we thought would make it different from others.

In our film opening, we made it so that there were clear examples of psychological problems and mental issues. We are aiming to represent that the chef, who is also the killer, isn't just some psycho murderer. There is much deeper psychological struggles that make him this way. We made sure to add in real-world problems like the usage of pills and alcohol addiction. Our opening is made to give a scary movie vibe but at the same time dive deeper into the mind of a killer and why they do the things they do.
