Research For #1 Question Of CCR
Question #1 for the CCR is, "How does your product use or challenge conventions and how does it represent social groups of issues?" The first time I saw this question, I could tell it was very important to the CCR and definitely had to be specific so I must answer it to my best ability. While doing research for the question, I understood that I would need to give a good and clear answer.
To begin, me and my partners project uses very typical horror conventions like a killer and their victims. There are some things in our project though that make it so much more than your usual killer and victim storyline. Our killer who plays as the chef, clearly has some sort of mental issues which viewers can see slowly as they watch the film opening. You may be thinking, killers usually do have mental problems since they are killing someone, but our opening will have the audience on the edge of their chair trying to figure out the "why?" and "how?". The opening itself is a mystery and was made to have viewers thoughts be all over the place. This is an example of why I think our film opening is very special and different from most openings. Even though we did use some typical horror conventions, we made it more unique by adding details that we thought would make it different from others.
In our film opening, we made it so that there were clear examples of psychological problems and mental issues. We are aiming to represent that the chef, who is also the killer, isn't just some psycho murderer. There is much deeper psychological struggles that make him this way. We made sure to add in real-world problems like the usage of pills and alcohol addiction. Our opening is made to give a scary movie vibe but at the same time dive deeper into the mind of a killer and why they do the things they do.
