Approaching the Cambridge Portfolio Project
For my portfolio project, I plan to either do it on the comedy or thriller genre. These genres are pretty different from each other, but it gives me a wider variety of ideas that I can do my project on. Thriller is meant to create a sense of suspense, while comedy is meant to make an audience laugh or for entertainment purposes. No matter which genre I decide to choose, they will both allow me to utilize different techniques or skills in my film opening.
One of the approaches I am considering is creating mood and tone. This approach addresses how the film makes the audience feel right from the start. During a comedy opening, mood and tone can be developed using bright lighting and upbeat music to make the audience feel entertained and happy. During a thriller opening, mood and tone are developed through dark lighting and suspenseful sudden sounds. Using these techniques during a film opening helps the audience to understand the mood instantly.
Another approach I am thinking about doing is developing context and background. Thrillers often use this because it helps set the story and develops questions for audiences. Giving small hints and elaborating on a setting about a situation can make the film opening seem more interesting. In a comedy, context helps to initiate relatable situations that become humorous later on.
